BUY MORE MINUTES / UK SWITCHING GUIDE

A better package.
A considered switch.

Use this guide to prepare a phone-package review. The official sources linked below were checked on 29 October 2026. Provider terms, eligibility and availability need checking for the actual service you choose.

01 / DEFINE GOOD VALUE

Compare the calls.
Compare the commitment.

Look at recent usage and local coverage. Compare the total commitment, including upfront costs and extras. If your handset still works, assess SIM-only alongside packages with a device. A lower monthly figure can be outweighed by fees or unsuitable coverage.

Check eligible call destinations, data, roaming and any extra charges. Ask for the final tariff and contract information before deciding. Where prices change during the term, include those changes in your own comparison. The homepage explorer does not discover these automatically.

02 / PERSONAL MOBILE

Keep your number.
Understand the steps.

For a single UK mobile number, text INFO to 85075 to check contract information. To keep the number, request a PAC by texting PAC to 65075; for a new number, request a STAC by texting STAC to 75075. Give the appropriate code to your new provider when ready. A PAC lasts 30 days. For multiple numbers on one account, use your provider’s phone or online route.

Review any early-exit charges and handset commitments before proceeding. This website does not request codes or arrange a transfer through the enquiry form.

03 / RESIDENTIAL LANDLINE

A different service.
A different process.

For residential landline switching, contact your chosen new provider about One Touch Switch. Confirm number retention and how any broadband bundle will be affected. Ask about equipment and installation before agreeing the date. Do not apply mobile PAC instructions to a landline.

If a phone line supports alarms, telecare or another connected device, flag it before a change. Discuss continuity needs and emergency calling with the provider.

04 / BUSINESS AND MULTIPLE LINES

Plan around
the working day.

Inventory the numbers, users and services before a change. Agree who can authorise it, when a transfer can happen, and what constitutes a successful test. Include shared numbers, hunt groups, call recording, international destinations and support requirements in the brief.

Ofcom’s business mobile guide distinguishes requests covering one number, two to 24 numbers and larger transfers. For more than 24, contact the existing provider for its process. Business fixed-line and hosted-phone migrations need their own plan; confirm the procedure with the gaining provider.
